Mobile stables move pigs twice a day

At Hallundbjerg, Hans Henrik's pigs live outdoors year-round in mobile stables with outdoor pens. Hans Henrik was a first mover when he was among the first to move his pigs around using mobile stables and outdoor pens. Twice a day, Hans Henrik moves the entire stable (on wheels) and pen to a new grassy area.

Pig manure minimizes climate impact

In a very short time, the pigs have turned over the soil in the new area, which is naturally fertilized. On Hans Henrik's 100 hectares in Brønderslev, it takes 3 years to move the pigs through a full cycle on the fields, where the pigs fertilize one block per year.

Outdoor pigs with clear musculature

Naturally, the pigs at Hallundbjerg do not have rings in their snouts, so they can root and rule in the soil as pigs are meant to. The pigs are also not tail-docked, and they stay together in families. A day in the life of outdoor pigs at Hallundbjerg involves digging in the ground with their snouts, lounging in the mud, and interacting with each other. The outdoor pigs have clear musculature in their meat and a dark, intense flavor.

Busy pig shepherd – and farmer

Hans Henrik's primary job is to be a pig shepherd for the 1300 pigs, and they are the only ones utilizing the pigs' curiosity to give the animals exercise – natural diversion in their daily lives while helping to cultivate the soil and minimize climate impact. When the pigs are not on a field, agricultural products like grains are cultivated on the fields the pigs have prepared. Aarhus University has just announced that fresh grass is healthy and good for pigs.

Zero-energy stables "Offgrid"

At Hallundbjerg, the pigs live in zero-energy stables. The pigs essentially heat up the mobile stable with their own body heat, as if it were a shelter. The stables are equipped with solar panels that, among other things, automatically open and close the windows.
