Our name means "Eat, my pig, tomorrow you must be slaughtered", it is an old Danish proverb that, as a joke, encourages children to eat up so they can grow big and strong.

SMG attaches importance to meat quality as much as animal welfare and ethics. Meat from Spis min gris has ‘lived to live, not to die’, and the animals are allowed to take on their natural role and contribute positively to nature, eg by grazing and ensuring biodiversity through crop rotation etc. Spis min gris has both cattle, pig and poultry. Our beef only comes from producers with dairy cows or cross-breeding offspring after dairy cows, which have a lower climate footprint than decidedly beef cattle, just as Spis min gris only collaborates with responsible farmers.

Spis min gris began as one of the first in Denmark to consistently introduce 'on-farm slaughter' of our animals in 2012.
This means that cattle and pigs are inspected by a government veterinarian before being slaughtered by an authorized butcher on the farm where the animals have lived.
The slaughter itself takes place in secure conditions, primarily to avoid subjecting the animals to animal transportation and to prevent the meat from being exposed to the stress hormones associated with animal transport.
